You have heard the expression “You don’t know how important something is until you have it no more.” That is probably true, but it is also possible to have something (or someone) in front of you that you don’t recognize as a blessing.
Jesus faced this problem in his own hometown. His neighbors would not or did not recognize or believe that He was Holy and capable of performing miracles.
“Jesus…went to His hometown…..and began to teach in the synagogue…..Where did this man get these things?…..What’s this wisdom that has been given to him?….Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us? They took offense at him.” Mark 6:1-3.
I look at this passage and I can just hear the hometown people in their unbelief. They saw Jesus only as Mary’s son. They knew Jesus only as a carpenter and brother. They did not open their hearts to allow God to show them Jesus, the One and Only Son of God.
They were too familiar with Jesus in an ordinary way. This can happen in your Christian journey. You can become comfortable with Jesus—take Him for granted—strike out on your own with decisions—forget what He can do for you and with you. He can become too familiar.
Jesus lives in your hometown (your heart). Keep Him first place in your life and give Him the honor and worship that He deserves.
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
