Jesus gave us the model prayer in Matthew 6:9-13. But there is something else we need to remember. Jesus prayed. His witness through His actions teach us how to pray.
He prayed for Himself:
He prayed knowing the past: “And now Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. John 17:5.
He prayed in the present—–“Father, the time has come, Glorify Your Son, that Your Son may glorify You….”John 17:1.
“Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” Matthew 26:39.
He prayed for others knowing the future:
“I will remain in world no longer but they are still in the world……protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me—so that they may be one as we are one.” Matthew 17:11.
“May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” Matthew 17:23.
We pray as Jesus prayed. We are supported by prayer as Jesus was. We pray looking into the future as Jesus did.
We are made in His image so we can believe in the power of prayer.
As we pray to our Heavenly Father, for ourselves and for others, we show the world that we follow His commandment to “Love the Lord your God with all you heart, with all your soul, with all your mind….and love your neighbor as thyself.” Matthew 22:37.
Have a blessed day!
