Memories flood your heart at unexpected times. Sometimes the situation that triggers that memory catches you by surprise. Right?
Very often though it is just the date.—My dad passed away on November 21, 1972. Although it has been 50 years, I can still hear his laugh, and see his beautiful smile. I can smell the fish frying as he cooks at the camp for friends. I can see the mess he left in our kitchen when he cooked squirrel mulligan. I knew who would be cleaning this up. The night before he died was just an ordinary night. I remember Dad standing in the hallway holding 6 months old Dave on his hip and how excited Curt was about spending the night with him. He knew they would go pick up Robbie.
These memories are just snips of ordinary times….nothing grand or major. Life is made up of ordinary times. Dad was only 58 years old. Life is special no matter how long we live. There is never a time that needs to be wasted or taken for granted.
I’m reminded of the song written by Lee Black and Aaron Williams “Love the People That God gives you.” In the chorus you hear these words:
“…….Live and laugh and make some memories; treasure every moment spent……”
And this from God’s Word:
“Now listen, who will say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make money.’ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist, that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that…….…….’ “
Live for Christ daily and make memories with family and friends that will last for 50 years or more: “Encourage one another daily, as long as it is called TODAY…..” Hebrews 3:13.
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
