“Be a winner!” “Go for it!” “Look out for #1!” “Find yourself!” “Set high goals and achieve them!”
Every motivational and self-help book is filled with these words. But the hidden outcome of this advice can sometimes be selfish and can lead us into greed and destructive competition.
“But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth—-” James 3:13,14.
The truth is God’s Holy Word. God’s wisdom keeps us from comparing ourselves to others, and keeps us focused on the qualities that only Christ can exemplify. God’s wisdom keeps us humble.
God’s Word keeps us grounded in the only competition that matters—running the race of life straight toward God and His eternal goal where we are all winners.
