I was waiting for a friend to have minor surgery the other day and decided to name the fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5:22. Since then I have said them every morning trying in my old age to remember them. Why? Because they each have a special meaning in the life of a Christian and I think knowing them keeps me grounded.
In today’s world so many things can keep us confused or agitated or worried, but knowing these attributes can bless the heart and bring us closer to Christ.
Because these are “of the Spirit,” they must grow out of one’s relationship with the Holy Spirit. This is the only way we can grab them and see the harvest.
Today I pick PEACE from the list:
“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, PEACE, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22.
PEACE can be obtained only when we give our problems to Jesus and receive the peace that He promises. “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; I do not give to you as the world gives. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27.
We can never avoid strife in the world around us or even in relationships close to us, but with God we can know perfect peace even in turmoil.
When we are devoted to Him, our whole attitude is steady and stable. Supported by God’s unchanging love and mighty power, we are not shaken by the surrounding chaos.
“Sometimes God calms the storm—sometimes He calms the child as the storm rages.” (I’m not sure where I read this, but it is so true.)
God loves us in good times and bad; what really matters is what is happening IN us, not TO us.
“He will keep in perfect peace all those who trust in Him, whose thoughts turn often to the Lord.” Isaiah 26:3.
Have blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
