The coach can’t go in the game for you, he can only teach you how to play. The time comes when you must “solo” against the opposition.
I am reminded of the Biblical story of Joash, a young ruler who had wise counsel and very good training. —–
When Joash was one year old, he was hidden in the temple by the priest Jehoiada. Jehoiada did this to save the child’s life. When he became king at age seven, Jehoiada served as his wise counsel and Joash was a godly king who restored the temple of the Lord.
“Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem forty years—-Joash did right in the eyes of the Lord all the years of Jehoiada the priest.” 2 Chronicles 24:1.
But the time came when he was put in the game:
Joash never learned how to make his own decisions, so when Jehoiada died, he did not continue in the wisdom of the Lord.
“After the death of Jehoiada, the officials of Judah came and paid homage to the king, and HE LISTENED TO THEM. They abandoned the temple of the Lord, the God of their fathers, and worshiped Asherah poles and idols.” 2 Chronicles 24:17.
All Christian parents want their children to make good decisions. But to do this, children must first of all LEARN how to make their own decisions.
Parents must play the part of the coach. We cannot leave our children without the skills for making wise decision by always thinking and deciding for them. Our children must “solo.” Even a bad decision can teach them to make a good decision in the future.
In today’s world as in Biblical times, we find many false teachings just waiting for receptive minds.
Pray that we help our children to think for themselves, but to know the God of all times who will guide them daily in His love.
When it comes time to get in the game, they will be ready to play.
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
