Late one afternoon when my granddaughter Preston was about 7 years old I looked down and asked her if she wanted to take a walk with me. She smiled and said, “Yes!”
We put on our shoes and walked out the door on to the asphalt driveway hand in hand. When we got to the end of the driveway, I stopped and turned around to walk back. She said, “Why are we going back?”
I responded, “I walk only on the smooth blacktop. It is so much easier on my feet.”
She glanced up at me with a puzzled look on her face and said, “Oh, we aren’t really taking a walk then, are we?”
I hesitated just a moment as I soaked in her words, looked at the tall corn fields that bordered the gravel road, then stepped off the smooth asphalt and onto the rough gravel that lay before me.
I felt the summer breeze, listened to the birds chirping, and watched the waving corn stalks in the sunset. Preston grabbed my hand, looked up at me, and smiled broadly. I knew that this meant we were actually taking a walk.
We have to step out of our comfort zone to walk with God. We have to trust that He knows the path, and that He will be there to help us enjoy the journey.
“Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” Amos 3:3.
I don’t think so!!
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
