For a while books got bigger and heavier every year? Our children went from carrying their books home under their arms to back packs, from back packs to the new and improved rolling book bag.
Then the heavy books were replaced with e-readers and i-pads, and i-phones. All the information students need is just a click on a button to “google it.”
But wait—-now we have AI and we don’t have to know anything.
Everything is literally a click away. Will internet access with information available to everyone make one smarter?
My dad quit school after the 7th grade to help his mom with his younger siblings and his dad with the farm—yet he was educated. He could read and write. He had a beautiful penmanship. He opened his own business and drew up plans for heating and a/c in homes and large businesses. He could tutor me in algebra and geometry.
My mom was one of the best-educated persons that I had ever known. She was an avid reader, had a wonderful vocabulary, and before she passed away at 95, she could still hold her own in conversation with anyone, any age. The 11th grade was her senior year because that was all that was offered.
Why is it today many young people finish high school and cannot read or cannot function in society? Big books are not the answer, but they are available; internet information is not the answer, but it is available; AI is not the answer, but it’s a convenient fix.
Possibly, many do not take advantage of the opportunity to learn that is given them. They do not listen to teachers and others of wise counsel.
” A wise man will listen, and increase learning , and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.” Proverbs 1:5.
