Early this morning I watched the snow falling on frozen ground. I also observed the tiny birds flitting in and out of the shrubs and trees, looking for food and warmth. I realized that I had blocks of bird seed in my refrigerator just waiting there for springtime. Soooo I took some out and hung feed in the trees. I don’t know whether the birds will respond or if the seed will ever be eaten, but I had it, and they needed it.
I know this action was “for the birds,” but it made me think of the following Proverb:
Do not hold withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, ‘Come back later; I’ll give it tomorrow’—when you now have it with you.” Proverbs 3:27–28.
During this winter storm that is so unusual in our community, small kindnesses can be huge.
A simple act—an unimportant gesture can often be the most treasured part of another’s day.
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
