In the “The Faith Chapter” Hebrews 11, there is a list of many of those who were faithful to God throughout their lifetime. Right after this Hall of Fame of Faith we find the word “THEREFORE.”
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles , and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith—–” Hebrews 12:1-2a.
This “great cloud of witnesses” is composed of the people of faith described in chapter 11.
Their lives and the lives of other faithful Christians serve as a reminder that we never struggle alone. We are not the first to struggle with the problems we face. As we look to others, we see the victories that God has won in their lives.
We must never stare at ourselves or our own circumstances, no matter how difficult they might be; instead, we must always look ahead and keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.
Remember! He crossed the finish line for us. (…the finisher of our faith...) We only have to run the race.
