Good morning from The Garden!

Solomon was overwhelmed by the responsibility of taking over as king after his father David. He took this worry to his heavenly Father, “And now, O Lord my God, You have made me king instead of my father David, but I am as a little child who doesn’t know his way around—–give me an understanding heart to judge your people.” 1 Kings 3:7,9.

In his book REBEL WITH A CAUSE Franklin Graham tells of his years of rebelling at being the son of Billy Graham. He ran because he wanted nothing to do with the evangelism call for which his father was famous.

He told himself, “Being Billy Graham’s son creates plenty of comparisons; I don’t need to go looking for more. Why would I ever choose to preach evangelistically? That would be nuts–there isn’t anyone who could fill my father’s shoes—me included!”

God never asked him to fill his father’s shoes, he just asked him to wear his own.

A faithful friend told Franklin, “God doesn’t want you to be Billy Graham; He wants you to be Franklin.”

Franklin Graham, like Solomon of old, felt the heavy responsibility of his illustrious father. He felt the burden of the future and what might become.  Then he did as Solomon did; he took the need to the Lord. “Lord, I don’t have the strength and power to do this. It has to be You filling me with Your Holy Spirit.

And now his ministry Samaritan’s Purse is reaching people all over the world.

When you are overcome with responsibility or you carry a heavy burden that weighs you down, you must first of all get rid of the “I can’t do this,” and remember that God can.

When you get “I” out of the way, you leave room for God. Then your shoes will fit just fine!

Have blessed day!
