“Peter said to Jesus, ‘Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters……’ ” Mark 9:5.
In this passage we find Peter, James, and John with Jesus right before His transfiguration. They see Jesus, dazzling white, and Moses and Elijah talking with Him. It is only human that Peter would want to freeze the moment. He wanted to dwell there.
This is an easy concept for many people—to stay in that one moment of their spiritual life. This is not what the Lord wants us to do, no matter how powerful the moment might be. He does not want us to compare our entire spiritual growth with that one mountaintop experience.
God wants us to grow, to get beyond the “Now I lay me down to sleep…if I should die before I wake…” stage of our Christian life.
We all like things “the way they were,” but God wants us to keep growing and building toward something better.
“Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: ‘This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to Him.‘ ” Mark 9:7.
Peter wanted to freeze the moment–to dwell on that one moment in time, but God had something much greater in mind. Peter listened.
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
