Yesterday was my husband’s birthday. He would have been 84 years old. This day brought back many memories of our 58 years together. Many of them bring humor and fun to my mind. He had his way, and I was supposed to read his mind. Most of the time, believe it our not,—I could do just that. There is one thing that I never could master.
I was never able to master the art of hand signals.
This is how it was supposed to work—–My husband would stand on the back of his pick-up, wave his arms in a circular motion and point in the direction of the tractor. If the driver of the tractor was a good farmhand, he saw the motion and he then knew exactly what he was to do—- stop what he was doing, turn the tractor around, cross over the turn row, and finish the spot he had missed in the field across the ditch. That is what the hand signal meant to him.
Of course, there was no manual available for the farmer’s hand signals, yet every self-respecting farmer was expected to master them and, you guessed it, every self-respecting farmer’s wife—need I say more? My husband never understood why I just stood there staring, always confused.
There is nothing confusing or deceiving about the signals that Christ will give when He comes again. Everyone will know! Everyone who has refused to follow Christ will mourn.
In the words of Christ:
“At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And He will gather His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.” Matthew 24:30-31.
—No obscure hand signals here—-God’s message for our world is clearly spoken. We know the beginning and we know the end. We are to follow His directions until the end of time.
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
