“Give us this day our daily bread” Matthew 6:11.
In the middle of the model prayer, Jesus reminds us to ask Him for our daily needs. Bread symbolizes our necessities, not our wants or desires. It is hard for us, left on our own, to know the difference.
By praying “give to us our daily bread, we are acknowledging that God is in charge and will provide that which helps us to survive each day. We are not to become so self-sufficient that we think we do all things by ourselves. The scripture does not state: “……I can do all things..…..” It continues. “I can do all things through CHRIST who gives me strength…..” Philippians 4:13.
We must pause each day and say, “Lord, give me what I need and help me control my wants.”
When we seek God’s guidance, He then can control our attitudes and meet our needs.
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
