It seems we sometimes are guilty of doing something foolish. I know you are thinking, “What’s this ‘we’ business?” Okay, I’ll rephrase it. I sometimes am guilty of something foolish.
Yesterday was one of those times. I left the dentist office after a check-up. I went straight to the fast food drive-through to get breakfast. (That’s the rule, isn’t it; Eat something right after a deep-cleaning?)
I ordered by number as I always do, but I did not realize that the menu had switched from the breakfast menu to the lunch menu. Sooooo I got the wrong sandwich–hot and spicy chicken! I have never ordered or eaten anything spicy! First bite told me it was wrong; first bite told me I shouldn’t continue eating, but I thought: “It must be good because it is on the menu so others must like it.” So I ate it and opened up channels in my brain that had never been touched before. Luckily, I had ordered milk as my drink of choice, after all it was breakfast, right?
The milk saved the day. It soothed my mouth in such a way that it was like I had not eaten the spicy sandwich at all.
Now, this is why I am telling this tale: I think sin is like this spicy sandwich. Everyone else likes it; it’s out there for me to order; so it must be good! But then the consequences appear——–But Christ makes everything right. He does not give us a bunch of rules to follow. He just helps us make the right decisions in our daily living.
“Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch!”? ” Colossians 2:21.
So many think only of the “Do Not’s” and not the “Do’s” that God encourages us to do. When we make a mistake and order the wrong life style, He is waiting to help us get back to where He wants us to be.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9.
Just as the milk soothed my palate, Jesus soothes our hearts as He forgives our mistakes, and gets us back on the “To Do” menu. Living for Christ is always the “Special of the day.”
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
