In the parable of the builder, Jesus teaches a valuable lesson:
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, saying, ‘This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.’ ” Luke 14:28-29.
If the builder estimates the cost of a project inaccurately, he may not have the ability or the funds to complete the building. It could be left half- finished.
Be careful that your Christian faith is not half-built, so you then abandon God because you did not count the cost of commitment to Jesus. “Jesus turned to His disciples and said, ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.’ ” Matthew 16:24.
The cost of following Christ means believing in His strength and power no matter what life brings to you. In the Christian song “I Promise,” you will find these words:
“I never said that I would give you silver or gold, or that you would never feel the fire or shiver in the cold, but I did say ‘You’d never walk through this world alone, and I did say ‘Don’t make this world your home.’ “
The promises of God never tell you that your life will be free from trouble or pain. He just promises to walk with you hand in hand.
“No one can become My disciple unless he first sits down and counts his blessings—and then renounces them all for me.” Matthew 14:33 Living Bible
True commitment to Christ means no turning back no matter the storm.
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
