“Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill? He who lends his money without usury—he who does not crush his debtors with high interest rates-–” Psalm 15:1,5. Living Bible.
Obviously, according to this scripture, we should not loan money, charging an unfair amount of interest on the money. This would be taking advantage of someone less fortunate and would not be a godly action.
But I think this principle extends beyond money matters and touches us in another way.
The “You owe me!” or “You’ll never do enough for me” attitude can be just as crushing as high interest rates.
People can be indebted to us because of things we have done for them or things we expect them to do for us. We need to help them to feel that they have paid their debt.
Whether in business or in our personal lives, we are commanded to make it possible for our debtors to pay their debts in a fair and honest way and go on with their lives.
We must remember that Jesus paid the debt for our sins. It is stamped PAID IN FULL. What a wonderful comforting feeling this is for each of us!
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life..….” John 3:16
A GIFT—PAID IN FULL–May we grant this same gift to others.
