Good morning from The Garden!

“To bring up a child in the way he should go, travel that way yourself once in a while.”

Jimmy and his father were fishing early one evening on a beautiful lake near their home. It was the day before bass season opened so they were using worms to catch white perch. Jimmy decided to practice casting with a small lure. The minute the lure hit the water, his pole bent double. Jimmy and hid dad knew right away that he had something enormous on the line.

A giant full moon had risen over the lake by the time he reeled in the biggest fish he had ever seen. There was only one problem—it was a bass. Jimmy’s dad looked at his watch and saw that it was 10 P.M. two hours before bass season opened.

“You’ll have to put it back, son,” he said.

Jimmy protested, “There’ll never be another fish as big as this one!” He then looked around and saw that there was no one else on the water to witness this situation.

But Jimmy knew by the tone of his father’s voice that there would be no room for discussion. He carefully took the bass off the hook and lowered it into the water.

He never has seen a fish that big again, but he has always remembered the lesson his dad taught that night. Doing right doesn’t mean just when someone is watching!

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children.” Deuteronomy 6:5-7.

Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
