In a movie I watched a short time ago, a young woman visited a small church in the community. She had never been to church before and she knew nothing about God or the love and sacrifice that Christ made for her. She certainly did not know how a church service was supposed to be conducted. When the pastor read the scripture about “Count it all for joy” she stood up and questioned this. Yes, she stood right up and asked the pastor how this could be. The congregation was horrified that she had disrupted service like that. They felt like she should not come back if she could not sit quietly and let the service continue as it always had.
Now, I know this is just a movie, but are we often like this congregation—-so set in our ways that we don’t see the people all around us who have questions and need answers.
In the letter to the Colossian church, Paul gives instructions to help us in talk to others about Christ and His saving grace.
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:1
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” Colossians 4:6.
A well-prepared meal is always better with a little salt. So consider this when you have an opportunity to tell people about Christ and His grace. Don’t let them walk away. Be prepared, filled with God’s love and grace; show kindness and patience (a little salt) and ask God to give you the right answers that will help them become closer to Him.
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
