I have wonderful memories of special time with my cousins at Grandma’s house. Grandpa lived there too, but for some reason we always said, “Let’s go to Grandma’s.”
My cousins Reggie and Peggy were my age and when they came from Texas, they always stopped and picked me up to go with them to “Grandma’s.” Then we made memories.
One day in particular one of us had the bright idea to walk to the country store that was on the main road—Probably about three miles from the house. We could get us a coke and honey bun and then walk back home. No problem, right? Now this was in the day when walking wasn’t an exercise to boast about. It was only a mode of transportation that we did because it was the only means to get to an end.
Sooooo we got our water jars, and struck out on our journey down the dusty road. We walked and walked, and then Peggy sat down wearily in the ditch, drank all her water and said, “How much farther is it?”
Reggie looked around and said, “I’m not sure, but I can still see Grandma’s house.”
The good news is that we finally made it to the store; the bad news is that it was closed!
Our journey was accomplished but our destination wasn’t what we expected.
Life is like that sometimes. That is why you have to enjoy the journey along the way and store memories that will last a lifetime. Effective living is not all about what you accomplish, it is more about the things you overcome along the way. When you are tired, God isn’t, when you are disappointed, God is still in control.
“Do you not know: Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Isaiah 40:28=29.
We did not get our coke and honey bun, but we were received with hospitality by the owners that lived right next door. And we made a memory that makes my heart smile always.
Have a blessed day! In Christian love, Diane
