Good morning from The Garden!

I am convinced that my cell phone not only hears my every word, but also reads my thoughts.  If I think about having a particular dish for dinner, I suddenly get ads and posts that explain to me a better way of cooking it or variations of the same dish.  Now this is scary when I really think about it.  But I still have my phone and I still use the internet.

In the novel 1984 by George Orwell the world is monitored by the “thought police”
whose job is to persecute individuality and independent thinking.  This novel was published in 1949 and depicted a future time in 1984 in which the world would be controlled by government surveillance and propaganda.

Now I realize that this is just a science fiction novel, but it is most definitely a description of our nation and world today.

Literature and history tell us stories.  Literature is often creative and fictional and yet can be a foreshadowing of what is to come.

History tells us what has already happened–good or bad.  It is fact; it cannot be changed.

Without the study of our past mistakes and victories, we cannot make our present better and mold our future.

But the history that is the most important in our Christian lives is the History of God’s Word.

This alone can give us the strength and comfort and encouragement that we need to let go of our past, to live in the present without fear, and claim our future with optimism.

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we might have hope.”  Romans 15:4

Have a blessed day!                                                                                                                                                           In Christian love,                                                                                                                                                              Diane
