Ralph Waldo Emerson, an essayist, poet, and philosopher, pinned these words: “A friend is a person with whom I may be sincere. Before him, I may think aloud.” You may value your talks with a friend and the advice that you can give or receive. But sometimes speaking thoughts aloud isn’t necessary.
“They sat on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his suffering was” Job 2:13.
You may worry because you don’t know the right words to say when a friend is in need. Perhaps what he or she needs most is merely your presence, showing that you care.
Sometimes a situation calls you to remember the words of a popular song: “You say it best, when you say nothing at all—-“
Have a blessed day!
