Jesus expressed agony as He prayed in the Garden: “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42.
Jesus expessed His true feelings to God, His Heavenly Father. Jesus exposed His dread of the trials that He faced–the cup referred to the terrible agony He would have to endure—-not only the pain of the cross, but total separation from God as He bore the sins of the world.
Through this prayer Jesus reaffirmed His devotion to God and His commitment to God’s will as He said, “Not my will, but YOURS.“
No one wants to experience pain or suffering. We often do not have a choice in avoiding either, but we do have a choice in how we deal with it.
This Easter as we remember the cross and the suffering of Christ may we all be reminded of the sacrifice He made so that we can have eternal life.
As we remember, may we pray with a devoted heart the prayer of Jesus daily and proclaim: “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:9.
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
