In the parable of the rich young ruler, Jesus teaches about the attitude of possessions. The young ruler wanted to know what he must do to be saved. He told Jesus that he had followed all the laws since he was a young boy—“I’ve been a good boy.”
Jesus told him to sell all he had and give to the poor. And the young ruler was simply sad because he had great wealth. In other words, he couldn’t let go of his possessions.
Jesus then said, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” Luke 18:24.
Whether you are rich or poor, you have to make room in your heart for Jesus. When your life is consumed with making or having money, you become self-sufficient and deny the role that God plays in your life. You can feel successful all on your own.
There is nothing wrong with a Christian having wealth. It is the attitude and love of that wealth that keeps someone from letting Christ lead.
“Whoever loves money, never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless. Ecclesiastes 5:10.
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5.
“For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil…” 1 Timothy 6:10.
Notice that in all these scriptures the Love of Money is the problem.
You can see the wealth as a blessing from a loving God and use it to bless others. Can this be done?
“Jesus said, ‘What is impossible with men is possible with God.’ ”
Have a Blessed Day!
In Christian love,
