Just a few days ago America watched Oklahoma win the NCAA Softball World Series. This was a crowning moment for these girls and for the school. They are very accustomed to winning since this was the third year in a row. But this isn’t the story that America will remember. Before the game, ESPN interviewed four of the starting players and the coach. Expecting a tough talking, boastful spirit from these girls, the ESPN interviewer asked, “How do you handle the unique pressure of the long season and keep the joy for so long? Anxiety looks like the thing that could easily set in.”
Grace Lyons spoke up without hesitation and answered: “The only way that you can have a joy that does not fade away is from The Lord. Any other type of joy is actually happiness that comes from outside circumstances.” This answer was not rehearsed; it came from a heart that loves the Lord.
I have always believed this statement but hearing it come from someone so young and influential made my heart smile
“Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12.
Grace was followed by her teammates who had the same faith. (If you haven’t seen this interview, it is worth five minutes of your time.)
“Watch your life and doctrine closely! Persevere in them because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.” 1 Timothy 4:16.
These girls may never know the influence they have on many others, but God knows and God smiles each time this message is shared.
Have a blessed day! I In Christian love,
Diane
