Do you find yourself hearing something but not necessarily listening to it? I’m sitting here this morning and I can hear the birds chirping, and I hear the train whistle in the distance. I can hear the a/c unit as it comes on. But all these sounds are in the background of my mind. I’m not paying attention to any of them. I’m not really listening.
Listening requires action our part. Hearing is a matter of sound being picked up by the auditory senses. We often hear, but fail to listen.
“All the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law….” Nehemiah 8:3.
When Ezra the priest read the Law to the people, they did not just hear the Word and think about something else. They truly listened and put the Word of God into action. Then and only then were their lives changed.
“Do not merely hear the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says…” James 1:22.
So let us all listen to the voice of God and take action to change our lives and the lives of those around us.
Have a blessed day! In In Christian love,
Diane
