God says:
“And the Lord commanded the man, ‘You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.” Genesis 2:16.
Satan says:
“You will not surely die….For God knows that when you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. 3:4.
In the beginning the first couple had an opportunity to choose to believe God and follow Him or to believe Satan and separate themselves from God.
Of course, you know the story. They ate of the forbidden fruit and they did not die. (at least, not right then.) The tree’s fruit was not poisonous. Soooo it seems to them that maybe Satan was telling the truth.
This is the way many react to Satan’s calling. They try just a taste and find out that maybe it is fun or maybe it is rewarding, or maybe it doesn’t hurt anyone. But the consequences come later. Falling out of fellowship with God can lead to a very burdened heart, at the least.
Yes, the consequences came to Adam and Eve, but God still loved them. He loved them and us enough to send Christ to take on our sins so that we will not face eternal death but everlasting life.
Man disobeyed, and made the wrong choice; he ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
When we are given a choice, we, too, have a chance to choose the right way or the wrong way. Either way there are consequences.
The right choices bring us closer to the Heavenly Father. The wrong choices may cause us pain, but can also help us to learn to make better choices in the future.
Either way remember—–God still loves—–
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
