The people of Israel wanted a king—–The early founders of our country wanted to get away from the king. King or no king this is what God tells His people: Fear the Lord and follow Him.
“If you fear the Lord and serve and obey Him and do not rebel against His commands, and if both you and the king who reigns over you follow the Lord your God—GOOD!” 1 Samuel 12:14.
It is good to fear the Lord–to know that He is is over all–to know that He is above all else–
The scripture passage in 1 Samuel goes on to state that if you do not fear the Lord, there will be consequences–He will lift His hand of protection and His hand will be against you.
This may sound harsh to all of us because we as Americans have become comfortable with embracing His love, His forgiveness, His mercy, His kindness, His goodness, His grace………
All of these qualities are present in Our One True Eternal God, but the Holy Word states that we should also FEAR Him.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. All who follow His precepts have good understanding; to Him belongs eternal praise.” Psalm 110.
The people of Israel, His chosen people, forgot this important precept and followed their own agenda.
I pray that we as a nation and as individuals will not take this same path. I pray that in the path of His love and grace, we will see His power over all.
Have a blessed day!
