Good morning from The Garden!

The tongue is a powerful organ. It can build up or it can tear down. The scriptures warn us that we have a responsibility to make sure we measure carefully what we say before we say it.

Everyone should be quick to listen; slow to speak.” James 1:19.

In the day of social networking–face book, texting, twitter, snap chat ,emails–the power of the written word is just as obvious. But the same message applies.–the written “word” can be harmful.  We must think before we write.

Do not let unwholesome talk [words] come out of your mouth [from your pen], by only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29.

I can sum this up with a quote from Beth Day, 1885:

Make it pass before you speak [or write] three narrow gates of gold:
First, ‘Is it TRUE?’
Then, ‘Is it NEEDFUL?’
In your mind give truthful answer.
And the next is last and narrowest, ‘Is it KIND?’

And if to reach your lips at last it passes through these gateways three,
Then you may tell the tale, and fear not what the result of speech may be
.”

Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
