When storms like Helene or Milton form in the horizon, there are many ways of warning the residents ahead of time. This warning doesn’t stop the storm or prevent damage from the storm, but everyone knows it’s coming.
Storms come up very quickly and fierce and without warning on the Sea of Galilee. In Luke we read of one of these storms. The disciples and Jesus were in the boat crossing the sea when “...there came down a storm of wind on the lake and they were filled with water and were in great danger..….” Luke 8:23.
The disciples had something better than a warning or a NOAA radio or The Weather Channel. They had Jesus in the boat with them. Yet, they were afraid.
Jesus simply stood up and calmed the sea. “He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.” Luke 8:24.
If Jesus can calm the sea, he can calm the storms that come into your life suddenly and without warning.
When you become afraid and feel panicky that you cannot control the situation, Jesus says to you as He did to His disciples, “Where is your faith?” Verse 25.
Jesus does not always choose to keep the storms from coming, but He never fails to be in the boat with those who trust in Him. If He is in the boat, He will calm the storm, or He will calm you as the storm rages.
Have a blessed day!
