When my sisters and I were young, we loved going to Texas to see relatives. It was a road trip that would surprise all of you now. Our car was our source of transportation; Dad was the driver; mom was the front seat navigator; and my sisters and I were nestled in the back seat. Two of us had beds on the floorboard (that’s what we called it.) The youngest was in the window of the back seat; and the lucky one was stretched out on the soft, cushiony seat. This seems like a horror story to most of you who are buckled in now for safety.
The point of my explaining this situation is that we were excited about the journey, not just about getting there. We prepared for the trip; slept a while; played the alphabet game, looking at the billboards that were on the side of the road (No interstate); and I’m sure, we fought some too.
Life is a trip to be enjoyed by embracing each day.
The Psalmist writes, “You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence …..” Psalm 16:11
God not only directs your path, He fills you with joy for the journey—true joy, not temporary happiness. Happiness is based on external circumstances, but joy is based on God’s presence within you. Even in your deepest troubles, you can feel comfort in the presence of the Almighty God, and through this sense of comfort and security, you will experience a lasting joy that brings you contentment.
When you base your attitude toward life on circumstances, you will miss the joy of the journey. When you see the blessings that come your way, you feel His presence and find contentment.
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
