A few nights ago the moon was a beautiful round yellow ball, giving off light that lit up the night sky. It cast light in my windows, and I noticed that I could see the entire area outside as if it were day.
This same moon is still in the sky, still rising and setting, but it does not have the same bright light. Why? Because it has moved away from the sun. The moon has no light within itself. It is merely a reflection of the light from the sun. When it is not reflecting the light of the sun, the world is dark.
“Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the Word of His servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on God.” Isaiah 50:10
We have no light within ourselves. We are a reflection of the SON who is the light of the world.
There was something else that was magical about the moon-lit night that made me take notice. It wasn’t just the moon that was giving light. The moon was reflecting off the buildings and the ditches filled with water.
The moon reflected the sun’s light and then its glow reflected off other things, giving light all around.
When we become too self-sufficient, and try to live by our own light, we find that our strength and our accomplishments fade.
As we reflect the Son’s light, we can cast a glow on those around us who can then catch the light. It seems to be a chain reaction that can then light the world.
Have a blessed day!
