We had VBS at our church this week. It is always wonderful to see so many young people come to have fun and learn about Jesus and how He loves them.
As we participated in the opening assembly, a young man, sitting in front of me (one of my little darlings) stood up with the others but said with a heavy voice, “O, Lord!” He obviously did not want to stand again.
I gently tapped him on the shoulder and said, “Are you praying?”
He looked at me bewildered and said, “What?”
I repeated, “Are you praying?”
This young man’s remark was so casual he had no clue that he had even spoken the name of the Lord.
Are we not just like that some time? We casually say, “Oh, my God,” or “Oh, my Lord.”
without really realizing it.
“Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that takes his name in vain.” Deuteronomy 5:11.
God’s name is sacred and it is special because it is His personal identity. What we do with God’s name tells everyone what our attitude toward God is.
If we treat His name carelessly, then we treat His power and dignity carelessly.
If we honor His name at all times, then we are always aware of His omniscient power.
“Give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name–” Psalm 29:2
Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
