Good morning from The Garden!

God bless America!  We have heard these words many times.  We all sing the treasured song as we fill up with pride and patriotism.  But never has this song been more meaningful than yesterday as I visited the nursing home here in my town.   I listened as a beautiful lady lay in her bed and sang every word to this beautiful hymn.  She did not sing “Amazing Grace” or “Wonderful Words of Life” or “How great Thou Art,” although she knows these as well.

She sang honoring Memorial Day.  She may not know the names of her family, nor the day of the week, or the month of the year, but she remembered this song, and knew when to sing it.  She sang it with the expression that comes only from one who loves her country and is proud to be an American. With her hands reaching out she sang—“from the mountains, to the prairie, to the ocean, white with foam…….”

Memorial Day honors and commemorates all those who have died so that we can live in a country where freedom rings true, so we can have a country to honor with pride.

“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13.

As you celebrate with family and friends this Memorial Day take time to remember all those who have given their lives so that we might enjoy the freedom of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

Freedom never comes without a price.

To all the families of those who have given their lives so others can be free, we say thank you and may God richly bless all of you.

And I leave you with that sweet voice from yesterday ringing in my ears—–“God bless America, my home sweet home;  God bless America, my home——sweet—-home.”

Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
