Good morning from The Garden!

Hoover Dam is a massive structure that holds back more than 9 trillion gallons of water from Lake Mead (a reservoir for Colorado River).  This dam harnesses water power that can generate electricity to most of Arizona, Nevada, and Southern California.  When I was on vacation one summer, I had a chance to tour this structure and listened to the tour guide explain the way it works.  He mentioned that the dam is carefully inspected every day and any small crack or weakness is noticed and repaired because even a tiny hole can breach the dam and destroy much property and many lives.

This memory came to my mind this morning when reading from Proverbs chapter 17.

Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.”  Proverbs 17:14.

This simply means repair the problem before it becomes a major break in a relationship. Sometimes the problem can be something from the past that needs healing or better yet, just forgotten.

“How do I do that?” you may ask.  You grow as just as Jesus did:

And Jesus grew in wisdom and in truth and in favor with God and man...”  Luke 2:52

As you grow more like Christ, you are better able to have a disagreement about a present problem without adding on excess baggage from days gone by. In other words, fix the “hole” before the dam breaks.  The dam can then hold up and the relationship can thrive.  You will be blessed and God will smile.

Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
