Good morning from The Garden!

When you hear the words “I am the greatest” and you are as old as I am, you may think of a famous boxer who spoke these words to his adoring fans many years age.  Many sports fans thought he was the greatest boxer who ever lived.  This may be true in their eyes, but he was a man just like anyone else.  He depended on others every day of his life.  Think about the ones who served him.—-the ringmaster, the opponent, the maintenance guy who ran the lights, the ticket master who sold tickets, the one who handled his money, the guy who made the vault at the bank that held the money safe, the ones who made his gloves and shoes——- I know I could go on and on, but you get the picture.

When we think of being the greatest of anything, Jesus has something to say to us:

“…the greatest among you should be the youngest (least) and the one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves?…..”  Luke 22:26,27.

The disciples were sitting at the table with Jesus observing the last Passover Supper.  This was the last one they would have with Jesus.  Instead of listening and understanding that Jesus was preparing them for His suffering and death, they were worried about who was the greatest.

We need to consider the words of Christ each day as we look around us.  There will be no restaurant owners if there are no servers; there will be no farms without someone to work the crops; there will be no bankers without the ones who deposit money; there will be no electricity for the huge corporations without the lineman who keep it functioning;  there will be no good doctors or nurses without the assistance of other medical workers.

Again I could go on, but we must consider the Words of Christ and believe that we each have a job to do and each job is important and should be done with pride.

Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be great among you, must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.””  Mark 10:43-45.

Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
