Matthew 6:3.

Good morning from The Garden!

How do you keep a secret from yourself? Seems impossible, doesn’t it, yet that is exactly what Jesus tells you to do. These are His words from the Sermon on the Mount:

“But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.” Matthew 6:3.

He is teaching you that your motives for giving to others and to God must be pure of heart. You should never get “puffed up” with pride over your own generosity.

It is so easy to do something for someone else and then think about it and wait for a response or for recognition.

Then comes the thought: “He/she never even thanked me.”—–the left hand knows what the right hand is doing.

Can you truly give when there is no benefit to you in return? Jesus says you can. That is what Jesus wants from you. No mixed motives; no expectations of reward–just the kind-hearted pleasure of knowing that someone else has benefited from your generosity.

Giving is in response to God’s love for you. You give because “For God so loved the world[you] that He GAVE….”

Have a blessed day!
In Christian love,
Diane
