I love and cherish the story of David in 1 & 2 Samuel. I love to read about his strength, his struggles, his victories, and his failures. I know that God used this young shepherd boy to be the king of Israel who became the major link to the lineage of Christ.
Sometimes a gold nugget of wisdom jumps out at me as I study the scripture.
Let me pick the verse that triggers my thoughts this morning. “Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic, and put on a coat of armor on him and bronze helmet on his head…..” David tried to walk around, and then he said “I cannot go in these…..”
Saul’s armor did not fit!
When David was willing to fight Goliath, Saul placed his own armor on him to protect him. It was not the right size; it was too big; it was a hindrance, not a help. David knew that He needed only the help (armor) and protection of the Lord God whom He had worshipped and trusted for His entire life.
It is impossible for us to fight our earthly battles wearing any armor but the armor of Christ. Your parents’ armor will not fit; your pastor’s armor will not fit; your friends’ armor will not fit; only the armor of a faithful relationship with Christ will protect you from the stress and dangers of this world. Ephesians 6:10-18. “….Put on the full armor of Christ, so that you can take your stand…….”
The armor of Christ is free to all, ready to wear, and ONE SIZE FITS ALL.
Have a blessed day!
