Do you look for the expiration date on practically everything that you purchase? Even the energizer bunny batteries have an expiration date on them. You always want to be sure something does not perish or lose its strength before you get complete use of it.
1 Peter 1:22-25 reminds you that there is something that is not perishable.
“Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring WORD OF GOD.”
The WORD OF GOD is the standard for all our faith and actions. It points us to the things that are everlasting.
“...the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever…” 1 Peter 1:24b-25.
Human life is short whether you live 8 years or 98 years. If you live only for earthly things you will leave behind or carry with you NOTHING. But when you focus your time and energy on the permanent –God’s Word and eternal life in Christ—you will leave behind or carry with you EVERYTHING.
